Schemes Underwriter

Location: London –  Manchester, Birmingham, London or Colchester
Type: Permanent, band II

The purpose of the role:

• Our client has a market leading reputation for producing bespoke solutions for niche customer groups managed by their broker partners. Within the wider Schemes team they deliver Schemes solutions across the UK retail business.
• You’ll work across the existing portfolio of schemes business as well as the creation of new scheme opportunities. You’ll work with the wider schemes underwriters, operations, sales and wider senior leadership team to drive improvement and profitable growth of their schemes portfolio and play an integral part in realising our ambitions of growing the book to £250m by 2027.
• You’ll be responsible for underwriting schemes business and servicing their schemes partner cover holders. You will also have opportunity to help drive and shape their wider underwriting strategy.

What you’ll be doing:

• Challenging convention on a regular basis. Suggest and execute underwriting strategies to ensure sustained, efficient and profitable growth
• Delivering exceptional service to our brokers
• Delivering profitable growth through ownership and portfolio steering
• Maintain  our clients market leading position in schemes by keeping abreast of new risks and exposures within our chosen sectors
• Build underwriting guides, policy wordings and other supporting documentation in collaboration with Underwriting, Due Diligence and Legal teams
• Shaping the schemes underwriting strategy and portfolio with the Head of Underwriting to deliver our 2027 ambitions
• Taking underwriting ownership and support relationship management and accountability for key strategic broker partners

• The ability to make a confident decision in difficult and complex situations
• Strong interpersonal skills ability to work independently in a collaborative environment
• Relevant underwriting experience
• Comfortable in analysing, making and executing underwriting recommendations on portfolios of business or willing to learn these skills
• An interest in becoming an expert in specific trades and insurance covers
• The ability to demonstrate great influencing and negotiation skills
• Openness to new ideas, innovation and educated risk taking
• Needs to have P&C or PI experience, preferably from a schemes background
