    Job Title – Porfolio Analyst 

    Contract – Permanent

    Salary – £40k- £45k 

    Location – London


    Purpose of the role:

    To assist the Portfolio Managerand Senior Portfolio Analyststo proactively drive improved underwriting performance via the use of analytics so that decisions can be made on the portfolios and enhance the balance, quality and mix of the companies business.


    The Role: 

    • To assist the Portfolio Manager and Senior Portfolio Analysts with one of the pillars of the portfolio management team
    • Working across all areas help:
      • Monitor portfolio performance, mix and balance
      • Monitor & analyse pricing trends and begin to assist with the development of proposals for consideration.
      • Monitor & analyse loss ratio performance and begin to assist with the development of proposals for consideration.
      • Monitor, grade and assess the impact of emerging risks and begin to assist with the development of proposals for consideration.
      • Define & prioritise the Underwriting toolkit
      • Own the Portfolio Management’s contributions to activities such as Business Planning, Outwards Reinsurance, Lloyd’s reviews, Reserving and Exposure Management
      • Assess that the syndicates follows and whether the current panel of syndicates is optimal.
    • To begin to understand the algorithmic and pricing capabilities at the syndicate and how to leverage these to optimise the portfolio.
    • To have an understanding of the distribution strategy and how this fits in with companies underwriting appetite, and where adjustments to either would drive improved results.
    • To provide analytical support to the Account Management and Underwriting functions.
    • To assist in the preparation of materials for the companies governance committees such as the Portfolio Underwriting Committee.
    • Actively seek out additional data sources to improve analytics, aggregation monitoring and risk selection.
    • Take an interest in with market trends to ensure portfolio actions are aligned to the future state of the market.
    • Ad-hoc analytics depending on current requirements.

    Qualifications

    • Obtained a relevant, numerate degree with a good overall grade
    • Experiencederiving insight by analysis ofdatasets, ideally within insurance
    • Some insurance knowledge, or at least interest in the industry
    • Ideally comfortable writing SQL and/or Python for ad hoc analytics, minimum strong Excel skills
    • Clear and concise communication of analytical results to the Portfolio Manager and the wider business
    • This role sits within the Portfolio Management function so will particularly suit individuals who have an interest in risk selection, underwriting or algorithmic trading
